The Vice President of Mortgage Risk Management has executive level responsibility for developing and executing comprehensive mortgage risk management strategies that deliver on the vision, mission and brand promise of myCUmortgage. This position directs and leads the risk management activities of the company, develops and coordinates overall compliance program, and designs and implements a comprehensive quality control and audit plan.
- Provides strategic and executive leadership for myCUmortgage’s risk management framework and operations. Oversees the management of risk management departments and key functions (compliance, quality control, licensing, regulatory examinations, internal audit, risk assessment and monitoring, business continuity, vendor management, corporate insurance), ensuring five-star customer service to both internal and external partners. Ensures operational priorities are aligned with organizational objectives. Comprehensive solutions are regularly evaluated; identifying potentially problematic areas and offer possible solutions to balance risk in order to meet the changing needs of myCUmortgage, the client base and industry requirements. Leads efforts to improve the performance of the business units under their control and for optimizing their actions and results. This includes process improvement efforts, developing and managing budgets and tactics, and managing and forecasting staffing. (25%)
- Collaborates with the myCUmortgage Leadership Team to determine and implement the corporate culture, strategic plans, tactics, budgets and priorities of the organization. (20%)
- Provide expert guidance to the business units through a comprehensive compliance program which includes Compliant Management and BSA related activities. Compliance inquiries are researched and expert guidance provided, practices and procedures are monitored for appropriate compliance with federal and state regulatory and licensing requirements. (15%)
- Oversees quality control testing on compliance activities through internal or external audits as well as any state licensing or investor examinations. (10%)
- Establishes, monitors and reports on operating activity and key metrics to ensure processes are efficient, reliable and compliant with internal and external quality standards, investor guidelines, have appropriate operating controls to mitigate risk, and applicable law and regulation, while performing at a high level and delivering required results. Resolves deficiencies in an appropriate and timely manner. (10%)
- Provide expert guidance to the CUSO leadership team and business units in understanding the risk management framework components, monitor and test adherence to the risk standards set by the company. This includes oversight of information security risk assessment. (10%)
- Recruits, leads, manages, and coaches a highly productive team of experts. Provides expert guidance to team for advancement through the betterment of their technical, supervisory and leadership skills. (10%)
- Serves as Acting CUSO President, as needed.
Required Skills
The Vice President of Risk Management must possess the following knowledge and skills:
- A bachelor’s degree is required (master’s degree preferred). An area of study related to business administration or risk management is preferred, although candidates with non-business degrees will be accepted when considerable experience in retail financial services delivery is demonstrated.
- At least 5 years upper management experience in risk management is required with at least 10 years technical experience in risk management. Experience with mortgage risk management is a plus.
- Maintain all required NMLS, state and Safe Act Licensing requirements as required for control person purposes.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, reason, problem solve and prioritize work independently.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex situations and solve problems and/or design recommendations to accomplish business and tactical goals.
- Demonstrated ability to properly develop and manage internal controls.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate and balance risk management against legitimate business needs.
- Demonstrated ability to understand complex laws and regulation that govern mortgage lending and servicing.
