Field Technician – Power
What You'll Be Doing:
VPS is currently seeking a Field Technician to work in the Power Delivery Distribution Services Department. The successful candidate will perform a variety of tasks in support of electric power distribution system design and implementation for power companies. Field Technicians shall have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures used in the field and understand/rely upon established guidelines, processes, and procedures to perform the functions of the job. Candidates are expected to apply experience and knowledge to provide solutions when guidelines will not meet expected outcomes shall recommend new and/or improvements to documentation where needed.
The ideal candidate is organized, eager to learn, professional, and adaptable. Attention to detail and strong interpersonal communication skills are vital. The nature of the role requires a team player – meaning someone who can take ownership of assigned tasks, collaborate well with other members of the team, and proactively seeks to help team members push a project to the finish line. This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
Required Competencies:
Executing work orders for the fielding of infrastructure while meeting quality, time, and budget constraints.
Collecting data by visually identifying, inspecting, and recording equipment and structures in the field.
Mapping data collected and applying established fielding guidelines, processes, and procedures.
Interacting with customers to perform walkout kickoff/scope meetings and/or to assist in the preparation of bid documentation.
Performing research to identify pole ownership, right of way, property rights, and permit requirements for proposed.
Communicating with outside parties to obtain right-of-way approvals and easements.
Providing guidance to others for specific duties in software, processes, and procedures.
Providing quality control review.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Associate degree in Power Line Construction & Maintenance is preferred but not required.
Prior experience is required.
The ability to read and comprehend engineering schematics is preferred.
Knowledge of construction and planning procedures.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
The ability to work in all weather conditions.
A willingness to travel overnight during the week as necessary.
Dependable transportation and valid driver's license and insurance that meets our minimum requirements.
The ability to pass a background check/drug test/driving record check.
Being computer literate and comfortable using programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Authorized to work in the United States.
