    Job Description

    We are seeking a detail-oriented Vegetable Trait Introgression Operations Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will support Trait Introgression (TI) operational activities across various sites, working closely with global TI managers on different crop pipelines. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to process improvements, enhancing the quality and efficiency of our TI operations. You'll be involved in crop planning, resource allocation, and data management using enterprise IT systems, while helping to monitor operational KPIs. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and an interest in agricultural biotechnology.

    Accountabilties:

    • Implement TI processes and execute TI projects in continuous nursery in close partnership with TI managers for assigned crop(s). Translate crop demand into an operational work plan including defining crop cycles and selecting plants at each cycle according to molecular marker results.
    • Function as an integral member of operations team, managing all activities from seed-to-seed process from sowing to harvest including but not limited to planning, sowing, irrigating, labelling, sampling, pollinating, harvesting, seed health measures, seed cleaning, and storage.
    • Translate crop demand into operational resource needs (infrastructure, supplies, employees, etc.), create rolling forecasts for crop cycle, surface area requirements, seed shipments, etc. Submit annual resourcing plan for greenhouses and field (workers and plant numbers) in demand planning tools.
    • Contribute to the establishment of yearly and monthly marker planning forecasts; secure that necessary planning adjustments are communicated to respective cross-functional collaborators in due time and minimally impacts final seed delivery date.
    • Collaborate with Pipeline Enablement to create applications to support planning, activity execution, and project status communications to stakeholders.
    • Capture and manage data in relevant Syngenta IT applications (MINT, SPIRIT, Genoplan, etc.) and tools (Smartsheet, Teams, etc.). Report regularly on operational KPIs to monitor TI process and secure TI pipeline delivery.
    • Secure and communicate timely project advancements. Ensure that seeds are delivered in right quantity, quality and time at the end of each project in close collaboration with TI managers.
    • Contribute to the constant improvement of continuous nursery processes to increase accuracy of delivery date, reduce seed to seed cycle time, increase capacity of facility/nursery, increase quality of TI conversions, make efficient use of resources and improve/simplify the overall ways of working.
    • On-call for greenhouse emergencies or unscheduled work based on business needs or weather conditions (including weekends).
    • Coach/mentor employees and contribute towards employee skill development and engagement on day-to-day basis. Participate in recruiting or people initiatives as appropriate.
    • Perform all tasks and behave in a manner compliant with and in support of all safety and stewardship related company policies and practices, including completing all required company training courses and attending local safety meetings.
    • Adherence to all company, state and governmental stewardship and regulatory requirements to maintain our freedom to operate (FTO).

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • MS degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Sciences or related field, or BS degree and ≥ 3 years of experience.
    • Experience and willingness to work in the field during summer months.
    • Willingness to work extended hours during peak season, as well as Saturdays year-round as needed.
    • Proven experience in crop/germplasm management or Trait Introgression (TI) in an R&D setting, preferably applied to commercial breeding programs.
    • Demonstrated experience in managing operational processes, including infrastructure and resource management
    • Experience as a team lead managing priority setting, training, etc.
    • Demonstrated agility and adaptability in managing competing priorities, enabling changes in plans and processes, and navigating dynamic project environments to meet critical delivery timelines.
    • Excellent commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence, with the ability to identify critical issues and engage cross-functional stakeholders to solve problems efficiently.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively in multi-cultural teams and drive results in global settings.
    • Data and digital fluency, with strong organizational skills to manage complex processes and competing priorities, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality trait conversions.
    • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
