Job Description
Vicmead Hunt Club (VHC) is seeking to place a highly capable and experienced financial leader with a positive and energetic approach to duties. In addition to leadership and skills, a proven track record of implementing and maintaining operating procedures, supporting a management team across various concentrations, and understanding the importance of embracing Club traditions and values is paramount.
The Controller is an integral member of the management team and supervises the accounting and financial operations of the Club with exceptional customer service and an aptitude for building relationships. He/she is also expected to prioritize personal and professional development for themselves and related staff to ensure knowledge and implementation of best practices.
CONTROLLER OVERVIEW
The Controller is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all accounting, auditing, budgeting, taxes, and related activities. He/she develops and ensures procedures and generates financial statements, forecasts, and analysis for administrative and managerial functions. The Controller provides analysis and interprets statistical and accounting information, evaluates operating results for costs, revenues, and increased profit possibilities. He/she will be integral in the complex development of the Master Plan and related financing throughout construction. __ The Controller __ will work directly with the General Manager, Department Heads, Finance Committee and Club Governance to provide clear communication and effective cost control. The Controller is under the direction of the General Manager who in turn is responsible to the Board of Governors through the Club President. The Controller shall conduct themselves according to the standards set forth by GAAP and the Board of Governors at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS/SELECTION CRITERIA
• A high degree of integrity and a proven track record of strong analytic skills, excellent time management, and organizational skills.
• Ability to successfully set clear expectations; set priorities and delegate effectively. Holds individuals accountable for outcomes, while providing constructive feedback and support.
• Be known for taking ownership and being able to effectively communicate, both in writing and in-person in a professional and appropriate manner.
• The selected candidate will have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, financial, payroll and accounting software applications, including POS applications (JONAS preferred).
• The Controller shall be versed in Federal Income Tax regulations, treasury and strategic planning functions. Knowledge of Delaware State Tax regulations preferred.
• A resume showing progressively more responsibility and mulitple years of professional accounting management experience with at least half of those years holding a role equal to that of this position. Experience with a non-profit, not for profit and or small business is a plus.
• He/she should also have a positive attitude with outstanding member/guest service and be willing and able to work a varied schedule.
• Club and/or Hospitality experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience with development and construction projects from an accounting/finance perspective preferred.
• Experience and strength in developing and implementing strategic goals. Past success in utilizing key metrics and benchmarking to support decisions and goal setting.
INITIAL PRIORITIES
• Learn and appreciate the history and traditions of Vicmead Hunt Club.
• Develop a positive rapport with fellow members of the Leadership team and, especially, with the General Manager, Treasurer and Finance Committee.
• Evaluate the operation, roles and responsibilities, standard operating procedures and provide the General Manager and Treasurer with an assessment approximately ninety days after commencing role.
• Gain a thorough comprehension of the Strategic Plan and begin to work with committee, General Manager, colleagues, and the Board of Governors to define and support implementation of both short- and long-term goals.
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION
The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or similar field. MBA, Masters in Finance, and/or CHAE, CPA certification preferred and a history of involvement with industry related professional organizations (i.e HFTP).
SALARY AND BENEFITS Vicmead Hunt Club offers a generous compensation package including salary, a benefits package that is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Club is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
