BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the general direction of the Director of Clinical Services the Volunteer Coordinator supervises volunteer
workers and provides direction, coordination, and consultation for all volunteer functions within the
organization to help strengthen public or private programs and to involve a community of supporters.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develops, promotes, and maintains a wide range of volunteer opportunities within the organization.
• Recruits, interviews, and places applicants for volunteer work and conducts / coordinates their training.
• Reviews written reports and observes work activities of volunteers to evaluate performance.
• Informs volunteers of policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service.
• Confers with volunteers to resolve grievances and promote cooperation and interest.
• Organizes and participates in volunteer recognition programs.
• Maintains accurate records and provides timely statistical and activity reports on volunteer participation.
• Supports Hospice of the Golden Isles community events and coordinates volunteer support of the events.
• Provides educational opportunities to volunteers as needed.
• Stays current with NHPCO and Hospice guidelines and regulations pertaining to volunteer services.
• Maintain up to date records using the EMR system so problems, plans, actions and goals are
accurately and clearly stated according to HGI policies, best practice and regulatory requirements.
• Successfully completes the annually required in-service as assigned.
• Participates in QAPI program as appropriate.
• Displays critical thinking skills to problem solve and manage patient and family issues according
to Hospice and Standard of Practice and HGI policies and procedures.
• Participates in emergency disaster processes as defined by HGI policies.
• Demonstrates familiarity with HGI policies/procedures and follows state and federal regulatory requirements.
• Participates in Interdisciplinary team meeting weekly.
• Maintains the confidentiality of all patients.
• Maintains a positive work atmosphere by demonstrating behavior and communicating in a
professional manner suitable for interaction with customers, clients, co-workers and management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, college degree preferred. Must have a thorough
understanding of and promote the Hospice concept. Possess excellent written and oral communication
skills. Demonstrate ability to be supportive and sensitive to the volunteer and patient/family needs.
