    Position Summary/Objective

    Under the direction of the WAP Crew Lead, the WAP Apprentice assists with the daily operations of Weatherization projects and supports other Agency Programs as needed. As an entry-level crew member, the WAP Apprentice gains hands-on experience in construction by assisting with various tasks, including removing and replacing siding, repairing drywall, air sealing homes, installing insulation and ventilation fans, supporting HVAC technicians with ductwork installation, and performing other carpentry-related duties.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Assist in the Weatherization of homes in accordance with federal rules, following standard work specifications and testing requirements.
    • Assist with carpentry duties which may include remove and restore siding, roofing, insulation, windows, hatches, bulkheads, rafters, soffit vents, ventilation fans, ductwork, wall vents, air sealing, vapor barriers, drywall, framing, painting, and other carpentry functions.
    • Assist with assessments, inspections, electrical and architectural work in accordance with Program guidelines for the Weatherization Program.
    • Take pride in their work and deliver consistent results.
    • Must be able to communicate in a courteous and professional manner with customers and coworkers. Receive and carry-out instructions.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license with a relatively clean driving record (NO DUI in past 10 years or License Suspensions)
    • Must have dependable transportation and be on time each day.
    • Responsible for observing and following all OSHA & Company safety policies and procedures.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Work Environment/Physical Demands

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able, at a minimum, to perform: Lifting up to 80 pounds (unassisted), stooping, bending, crawling, climbing, standing, and reaching. Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment

    Additional Benefits:

    • Healthcare through the State of Tennessee. UETHDA pays 100% of the monthly premium for the Employee Only (estimated cost paid by UETHDA for the employee is over $600 per month ($7,200 annually). Additional insurance coverage is available but cost difference will be paid by the employee.
    • Dental, Vision, Short-Term, Long-Term Disability and Voluntary Life Insurance options are offered at 100% cost to the employee .
    • Group Term Life Insurance for employee paid by UETHDA at 100% for coverage of 1.5 time the yearly wages
    • Retirement Plan--Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS). Eligible employees are required to contribute 5% of yearly wages (pre-tax basis to the defined TCRS plan). UETHDA contributes an amortized amount as determined by TCRS. Employees are vested upon 5 years of eligible service.
    • Additional 401(K) and 457 Savings Plan also available without employer match.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time non-exempt position with standard hours of work/days Monday through Friday.

    Travel

    Travel is primarily locally during the business day although some overnight travel may be required for training.

    Minimum Education and Experience

    • ****High School Diploma or Equivalent.
    • One year experience in construction or related work.
    • Obtain OSHA certification within 60 days.
    • Ability to work in hot, cold, and cramped environments, climb ladders, wear respirator, lift and carry up to 80 lbs.
    • Flexible, and service-oriented attitude.
    • Experience in working with culturally diverse clients.
    • Attention to detail, ability to prioritize and multi-task, and follow-up skills.
    • Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple activities to meet organization goals and deadlines.
    • Strong interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility to work effectively with all levels of staff.
    • Must pass the reference, background/criminal, education checks, physical and drug test.
    • Maintains confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
