Job Description
The Staff Accountant position is to assist the Senior Accountant in a variety of ways. Primary the job is to analyze tax and financial data to prepare tax returns, as well as, to provide tax consultations to both business and individual clients.
v Prepare tax returns for individual clients and some business clients by using ProSeries professional tax software:
§ Prepare individual tax returns including clients who need to file for Schedule C, Schedule E, Schedule E, or Schedule F businesses, as well as taxpayers who itemize on Schedule A, and have investment income to report on Schedule D, Schedule B and from K-1 Forms. This includes filing both Federal, State(s) and Local Returns (where applicable).
§ (Optional and if needed) Prepare annual tax returns for C or S corporations, partnerships, non-profit organizations, and trusts, including consolidated corporation taxes, multi-state business taxes, and partnership taxes with special allocations.
§ Review financial records such as prior year tax returns, income statements and documentation of expenditures to determine the best solutions for tax return preparations for businesses and individuals.
v Assist clients in gathering financial data and responding to IRS/state/local Notices or audits:
§ Communicate with clients to collect and review substantiated financial data.
§ Organize and analyze the data by using Excel or spreadsheet Microsoft ware tools.
§ Report the data analysis and findings to Senior Accountant for decision making in responding to government Notices or representing clients in front of the government authorities.
v Work directly with various institutional clients across multiple industries from start-up businesses to family-run businesses in responding to their specific financial and tax needs:
§ Advise clients in various accounting and financial matters.
§ Perform independent research through various resources to assist Senior Accountant in making recommendations to clients on tax treatments of complex business transactions and tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities.
v Maintain working knowledge of current federal, state, and local regulations relevant to various tax matters by attending regular in-house or online training sessions.
Job Requirements:
· A minimum of a B.S Degree in Accounting or Finance with about 2 years prior accounting experience and alternative master’s degree with no experience.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel skills (Pivot Tables, V-lookups, etc.);
· Competent in using tax preparation and accounting software.
· Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks; work efficiently with minimal supervision.
· Excellent problem solving/judgment skills, and high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
This is a seasonal position that may have the possibility of becoming permanent, in which the candidate will be available to work full time but may be needed work overtime during out busy season (January 24th – April 15th). Work availability after those dates are to be determined based on the work demand and the ability that the candidate displays. Training will start two weeks prior 2 to 3 days per week. Flexibility can be considered as a far as being in office versus working virtually at-home.
