In our over 125-year history, we have become one of the most celebrated art museums in the country and we are known for our innovative presentations and acclaimed collections of contemporary art across the spectrum of the visual, performing, and media arts.

    The Collections Management technician participates in the maintenance and care of Walker’s collection throughout the building and storage facilities. Working closely with the Collection Management Supervisor, the Technician also specifies and packs artworks for loan or exhibition.


    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Facilitate the safe movement, packing/unpacking, installation, and proper lighting of artwork in collaboration with internal and external teams, utilizing industry standards in handling and security techniques.
    • Participate in the training and development of procedures and standards to improve the movement, handling, packing, and installation of art.
    • Maintain a clean environment in work, storage areas, and galleries – dusting, sweeping, mopping
    • Participate in Walker’s annual collection inventory.
    • Maintain and clean works on public view inside and outside the building.
    • Load and offload trucks transporting works, occasionally outside of standard hours, ensuring adherence to Walker’s care and safe handling standards.
    • Work collaboratively with curators, artists, and artist assistants towards the success of their projects.
    • Add documentation to relevant museum systems for assigned projects.
    • Participate in departmental, team, and project meetings and project de-briefings. Communicate concerns and plans to project teams.
    • Join the Exhibition Installation team to mount large-scale exhibitions

    REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

    ** Education:**

    • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 2 years of museum experience, exemplifying professional museum practices in art packing, handling, and installation
    • Minimum of 1 years of experience designing, fabricating, and packing a broad range of unique artworks
    • Working knowledge of best practices in museum object storage and associated materials

    ** Skills:**

    • Hands-on, detail-oriented, able to prioritize various responsibilities and time-sensitive requests.
    • Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to work on complex projects as a part of a team and major contributor Must possess a valid driver’s license

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    • Stand for long periods
    • Bend, stoop, reach, lift, and climb to move materials and carefully handle artwork
    • Climb up and down stairs and ladders, work comfortably at heights
    • Reach both above and below shoulder height
    • Be able to lift to 75 pounds individually
    • Manual dexterity to operate manually controlled equipment and safely handle works of art
    • Ability to visually inspect work; specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS This position is considered full-time (35 hours per week), non-exempt. As a non-exempt position, it is eligible for overtime pay. The minimum compensation for this role is $25 per hour. The Walker offers a wide range of benefits for both part-time and full-time employees.
