    The Wastewater Treatment Operator is responsible the operation and maintenance of the industrial wastewater treatment plant to ensure the safe, efficient and economical treatment of wastewater. This position will execute the policies and assignments received from corporate management, compliance requirements defined by state & federal regulating agencies, and plant management. To be successful, the Operator requires a high degree of independent judgment in accomplishing the work and developing continuous improvement programs.

    Wastewater Treatment Operator Duties To Be Performed

    • Operate the facility to meet all applicable regulatory requirements in accordance with design criteria
    • Implements techniques and methods of process control which increase plant efficiency
    • Conduct preventive maintenance tasks as assigned
    • Execute emergency and unscheduled work necessary to keep the site operational
    • Completes equipment repair or replacement such that effluent quality limits are maintained
    • Advise on the requisition of appropriate tools, materials, equipment, and services, and
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge and Skills:

    • Knowledge of and ability to apply policies and procedures
    • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, inspection, repair, and installation of wastewater treatment plant components
    • Knowledge of the mechanical, biological, and chemical processes involved in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant
    • Knowledge of the occupational hazards in wastewater treatment plants and safety measures to be implemented
    • Ability to operate and maintain equipment used in the wastewater treatment process
    • Ability to recognize needed repairs
    • Ability to perform, analyze, and interpret laboratory tests for the purpose of making operational adjustments
    • Ability to deal effectively with people at all levels
    • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language.

    Wastewater Treatment Operator Required Training and Experience

    1-5 years of WWT experience. Other combinations of experience and education, which provide the knowledge and skills required to perform the job, may be considered. SG will pay for all education and courses required to obtain and maintain this certification.

    Preferred Knowledge and Skills

    • An understanding of fundamental computer skills
    • Previous experience using Microsoft Office for communications and reporting
    • Experience with biological wastewater treatment processes, to include: DAFs, belt presses, biofiltering, primary/secondary clarifiers and secondary aeration processes, and
    • Experience with preventative maintenance software.

    Wastewater Treatment Operator Additional Requirements

    • Must be able to climb ladders, regularly lift weights up to 50 pounds, and work in a physically demanding environment, and
    • Must pass a pre-employment background check, and drug test.
