JOB OBJECTIVE
The Direct Support Professional is responsible for the health and safety, support, care, and services of the residents in the home to which they are assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES
None.
NATURE AND SCOPE
· Compassionately provide supervision, instruction, and assistance for all residents with personalized care and empathy.
· Address residents’ needs with respect and attention to safety.
· Use People First Language when interacting with residents, family, staff, and visitors.
· Maintain appropriate physical and emotional boundaries with clients, families and staff
· Assist residents with daily living activities, including bathing, grooming, dressing, eating, and using the bathroom.
· Actively engage residents through conversation and companionship.
· Engage with residents in a manner that promotes their independence and maintains their dignity.
· Help with meal preparation.
· Perform housekeeping duties.
· Report any unusual incidents or behavior to manager.
· Administer medications as outlined and trained.
· Maintain a safe environment for residents.
· Provide supervision, instruction, and assistance for residents as required in the Individual Program Plan (IPP) or as directed by a Manager.
· Supervise and participate in individual and group outings as assigned and/or as needed.
· Drive residents to and from appointments, outings, etc. as assigned or needed.
· Attend staff meetings and complete staff trainings.
· Able to push, pull and/or lift 50 pounds.
· Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
· High School diploma or GED equivalent
· Computer literacy (MS Word, send and receive emails)
· Have or can obtain a CPR/First Aid Certification
· Ability to appear for work on time and work until the end of shift.
· Ability to follow directions from a supervisor.
· Ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with co-workers.
· Ability to understand and follow posted work rules and procedures.
· Ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written forms.
· Ability to accept training guidelines and apply constructive criticism.
· Ability to remain free of conflicts of interest or report them in a timely manner
· Must avoid complications with outside agencies (ie, IHSS, other care organizations)
· Must possess a valid CA driver’s license and clean driving record.
· Must be able to pass state and federal level background check and Live Scan fingerprinting.
WORKING CONDITIONS
· Works primarily in a home setting.
· Position works in and around kitchen equipment which may contain sharp knives and hot stoves or other hot or cold cooking utensils.
· Position involves preparing meals and requires contact with meat, poultry, and other food related products.
· Physical demands include ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
· May come in contact with bodily fluids which could potentially contain bloodborne pathogens.
· Frequent lifting of up to 50lbs is required.
· May drive company vehicle in busy traffic and during inclement weather.
· Work hours may vary depending on need for coverage.
