Emerge is currently recruiting qualified candidates for a direct hire Senior Weld Engineer position in LaPorte, IN for our client, a growing leader in the aerospace industry. This is a newly created, hands-on position for this global aerospace manufacturer, working in a state-of-the-art investment casting facility. Candidates must have production experience in TIG welding and oversight and training of TIG welders. The Weld Engineer will be responsible for improvements and control of weld repair/fabrication of super alloy castings, ensuring all welds meet Class “A” requirements. The Senior Weld Engineer will handle all training and development of production welders using GTAW/TIG welding. Our client offers a competitive salary of $85,000 - $100,000 based on experience level, excellent benefits starting on day one, and an annual bonus. Some travel to other company sites in Canada and USA locations is required. Relocation assistance is available.
Responsibilities for the Senior Weld Engineer position in LaPorte, IN include:
- Training and developing new production welders.
- Monitoring workmanship and continuous training of current welders.
- Certifying new welders and recertifying current welders biannually.
- Maintaining Nadcap certification.
- Planning and executing repairs on castings that may have to potentially be scrapped.
- Monitoring weld quality yields.
- Developing new welding techniques and equipment improvements for production applications.
- Maintaining weld wire and weld cap control and inventory.
- Writing and maintaining work instructions.
- Performing customer specification and blueprint reviews.
- Maintaining welder stamp control.
- Maintaining personal welder certification.
- Managing methods improvement.
- Overseeing cost estimating, scrap, and rework costs and documentation.
- Providing technical support to the shop floor.
- Serving as the technical liaison with customers and other company plants.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in welding engineering degree strongly preferred.
- Documented formal training in GTAW/TIG welding (i.e., Certificate of Completion, AS degree in Welding Technology, etc.).
- A minimum of 4 years' experience welding nickel-based alloys through education and/or hands-on manufacturing environment required.
- Investment casting experience or similar manufacturing facilities qualifying new programs with significant experience in investment castings (engineering and/or manufacturing) strongly preferred.
- This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which requires U.S. person status; ITAR defines U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e., "Green Card Holder"), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
