Title: Press & Assembly Welder
Shift: Off shift (4pm-2am) Monday-Thursday 4-10's schedule
Pay: $23-$25/hr (+/- depending on experience)
Location: Pulaski, VA
Welder Role:
Set up and operate department equipment such as portable welding units, automated welding units, and overlay machines. Operate equipment to perform a series of welding operations such as one- and two-handed MiG, TiG, Arc, Plasma Transfer Arc, and stainless-steel overlay on production materials.
Work from blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications, job orders, tooling instructions and standard charts to obtain such specifications as dimensions, tolerances, and instructions. Troubleshoot and resolve various types of operating difficulties, recommend corrective action on process failures within the department.
Welder Responsibilities
- Follows all environmental health and safety (EHS) policies, practices, protocols, and regulations. Proactively addresses any potential EHS issues and
reports any unsafe conditions. - Sets a positive example regarding EHS and a safety-first culture.
- Maintains a clean and orderly (6S) work area and equipment to ensure a safe and productive work environment and quality products.
- Sets up and operates welding equipment
- Must know the different types of material for proper welding specifications, such as preheat, post-heat, amperage, voltage, and filler material types
- Positions workpiece in fixture or on machine table, and secures it with clamps and wrenches, verifying positions with precision instruments
- Uses a variety of precision measuring instruments and tools to ensure proper tolerances are maintained
- Continuously meets established standards for productivity and quality
- Operates overhead crane systems and material handling equipment
- Performs other responsibilities as assigned and/or as needed to support company objectives
- Meets on-site attendance requirements
- Pursues continuous improvement by suggesting, implementing, and supporting solutions/strategies to increase productivity, reduce scrap, and improve the operation, and decrease downtime; participates in continuous improvement activities and projects, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
About you:
- 2-3 years’ experience welding MIG or TIG in a machine shop or industrial setting
- Experience with steel TIG welding preferred
- Experience working with stainless steel, mild steel, and alloy steel
- Experience with hard facing materials such as nickel carbide and iron chrome
Education and Skills:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Certification in welding
- ASME certification preferred
- Must have the ability to read specifications, drawings, blueprints, and procedure manuals and use precision measurement instruments
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to perform the following physical demands with or without accommodation:
- Position may require person to be on their feet to 8-10 hours standing or walking in a heavy manufacturing environment, constantly performing
regularly scheduled maintenance duties - Ability to lift objects weighing more than 50 pounds infrequently
- Ability to safely operate forklift, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment
- Ability to see and hear in order to perform the functions of this position
- Ability to speak, write and understand English fluently
