    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Safety Ambassador is responsible for insuring that all individuals experience a safe and welcoming environment. The Safety Ambassador assists in implementing safe procedures at the location(s) and assists in maintaining compliance with existing safety policies and procedures. The Safety Ambassador increases safety awareness at the location(s) by sharing information at staff meetings and reports any safety concerns to management.

     

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, EDUCATION, TRAINING,)

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent required OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Healthcare background a plus.
    • Effective communication with staff and management. Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
    • Commitment to the provision of services for the underserved and sensitivity working with a variety of people from low-income populations, with diverse educational, lifestyle, ethnic, and cultural origins; disabled, experiencing homelessness, substance dependence, HIV (AIDS) infected, and/or physiologically impaired.
    • May need to travel to other WellSpace Health sites within the Sacramento, CA region.
    • Must have valid driver's license and insurable driving record.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

    • Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, and accidents.
    • Utilizes De-escalation and motivational interviewing techniques to assist with patient or visitor concerns.
    • Escorts patients, visitors or vendors in or out of building as necessary following physical security plans.
    • Educate and train staff on the importance of safe work practices.
    • Reviews current safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
    • Conducts safety inspections by walking the Location and surrounding grounds.
    • Support the implementation of appropriate measures and equipment for employee, patient and client safety.
    • Demonstrate the ability to problem-solve and apply knowledge to recognize potential safety hazards and prevent injuries.
    • Complete required safety related checks on a periodic basis, such as: emergency exit lighting checks, fire extinguisher checks, and test bathroom alarms.
    • Conduct/initiate the quarterly fire/evacuation drill.
    • Attend regular safety related trainings and workshops.
    • Facilitates productive discussions among employees and management relative to safe workplace practices.
    • Requests and collects employee feedback and suggestions on safety procedures.
    • Updates SDS lists for Location.
    • Inspects storage areas to ensure regulations are followed.
    • Works with facilities to ensure all open tickets are closed.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The work environment is characteristic of an office environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands and arms to reach. The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

     

    The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client's use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care. The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
