    SUMMARY

    Under supervision of the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Specialist develops, organizes, and oversees Park District programs and activities. This will include but is not limited to the following programs, Youth and Adult Basketball, Dance, Yoga, Youth Soccer, Youth Sports Sampler, Pre School-Classes, Adaptive Recreation, Annual Rummage Sales, and more. This position will also assist with Park District special events as needed.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develops, organizes, and oversees free and fee-based recreation programming for youth and adults.
    • Coordinate dates, staff, and locations for classes.
    • Monitor program attendance and submit marketing requests if necessary.
    • Develop positive relationships and partnerships with individuals and groups utilizing parks and facilities within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the Park District.
    • Research current trends to keep activities relevant.
    • Monitor program performance, including financial information, to ensure that each program area is meeting expectations. Assist with securing sponsorships when needed.
    • Set up, distribute, and collect materials and equipment for programs.
    • Provide effective communication verbally and in writing with participants and parents/guardians of participants.
    • Prepare information for Park District digital and print publications while following schedules for development, production, and distribution.
    • Make revenue and expense recommendations to Recreation Manager for annual budget.
    • Design and order t-shirts and/or promotional materials for programs.
    • Receive and follow up with feedback and suggestions from participants and members of the community.
    • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate performance of part-time staff.
    • Prepare inventories and purchase supplies and equipment as needed.
    • Develop budgets, schedules, and reports.
    • Follow, support, and uphold the West Fargo Park District's Standards and Expectations for Employee Excellence.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree required, 3-5 years experience preferred , course work in Recreation, Sports Management, Project Management, or closely related field. A combination of experience/education may be considered.
    • Ability to maintain a good working relationship with other employees, supervisors, and the public.
    • Possess general knowledge of computers and other basic office equipment to complete data processing and communication.
    • Experience with the software/platforms of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, InDesign, ActiveNet, Canva, WordPress, and Occasion is preferred.
    • Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Must be able to multi-task, adapt to change, and make quick decisions.
    • Excellent customer service, organization, planning, and problem-solving skills.
    • Valid driver's license.

    PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

    This position requires the employee to work in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to meet frequent deadlines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly sit, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to touch, handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee may be required to occasionally perform a full range of motion with lifting and or carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds. The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to perform the essential functions of this position successfully.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    Most often, work is performed in a standard office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. When assisting with community events, they are held indoors and outdoors. May be exposed to all weather conditions, including rain, wind, snow, or extreme temperatures.

    PARK DISTRICT OFFICE DUTIES

    Assist customers and answer incoming calls to the West Fargo Park District · Provide coverage and support of the West Fargo Park District front desk and the Rustad Recreation Center front desk as needed · Update content and maintain online software programs such ActiveNet.
