Aerial Mapping/LiDAR Technician

WESTWOOD PROFESSIONAL SERVICES, INC. is seeking an experienced Aerial Mapping/LiDAR Technician to join our team in our Overland Park, KS office. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide technical production that involves developing topographic data from aerial photogrammetry, LiDAR and UAV-based sources.
- Collects/formats data from source materials utilizing specialized photogrammetry or LiDAR software to produce digital mapping products.
- Performs classification, feature extraction, mapping from LiDAR point cloud, manual edits, creates and runs filtering macros, and has the experience to assist in the final QA/QC of data deliverables.
- Compile Digital Terrain Model (DTM) data from stereo photography in a visual 3D environment.
- Seek professional development opportunities to expand knowledge in the industry, i.e. workshops, conferences, webinars, and certification.
- Researches previous maps and other records to obtain data needed for the project.
- Analyzes data and prepares reports and maps.
- Ability to understand aerial maps with precision and accuracy.
- Complies with company standards, policies and procedures.
Required Skills
Required Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science or related technical field and/or 5+ years of related experience.
- Requires experience in aerial triangulation, stereo compilation and photo interpretation.
- Solid understanding of photogrammetric theory and principles.
- Solid understanding of LiDAR theory and principles.
- Must be able to view and perceive depth accurately using stereo vision to view and collect data from stereo pairs.
- Working knowledge of MicroStation and Terrascan required.
- Proficient with LiDAR feature classification
- Effective written and verbal communication is necessary and independent judgment is essential.
- Possess the ability to change focus quickly during a typical day.
- Positive and solution oriented approach to problems.
- ASPRS certification would be considered a plus.
- Experience with Inpho or Intergraph Imagestation products would be considered a plus.
