    General Maintenance Worker I

    Salary Level: Start: $11.25 – Max Rate: $15.44 (R1)

    FLSA Status: Non-exempt - Hourly

    SUMMARY

    Under direct supervision, this individual will perform manual labor of an unskilled and semi-skilled nature.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Load, unload and carry sand, gravel, pipe, lumber, furniture, and/or other materials.
    • Operate vibrator roller, small power mower, lawn edger, portable sprayer and other small equipment and hand tools.
    • Cut, trim, plant and water grass and shrubs; cut down trees, weeds and shrubs; and remove stumps and limbs.
    • Pick up trash around public buildings.
    • Work on trash truck, white metal truck, or cherry picker as a laborer.
    • Sweep and mop floors; dust and polish furniture; collect and remove waste; wash walls and windows; clean restrooms and replenish supplies; and unstop sinks and toilets and report the need for repairs.
    • Deliver supplies, run errands, sweep sidewalks, pick up litter, cut grass, trim hedges, rake leaves, tend flower beds and replace light bulbs.
    • Assist in limited maintenance and field equipment, carpentry, offset printing, painting, plumbing, sign fabrication, and street repair.
    • Perform any other assigned duties.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Ability to understand and follow simple oral instructions.
    • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of general cleaning equipment.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver's License.
