We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Attorney to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in workers' compensation and personal injury law. This role requires excellent legal drafting skills and the ability to conduct thorough research. The Attorney will be responsible for providing legal advice, representing clients in court, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The role involves representing claimants in workers’ compensation depositions across South Carolina, preparing clients, attending proceedings, and handling related tasks such as drafting summaries. Given the nature of depositions, which often occur without direct judicial supervision, the attorney must self-regulate and uphold ethical standards, as highlighted in Rule 30(j), SCRCP. This responsibility is crucial for maintaining the firm’s reputation and client trust, especially in a field like workers’ compensation, where claimant advocacy is central. Responsibilities: • Conduct comprehensive legal research to support case strategies and ensure informed decision-making. • Maintain accurate records of client interactions and case progress within the law office management system. • Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations that may impact clients or the firm’s practice areas. • Prepare thoroughly for depositions by reviewing case files, medical records, expert reports, and other relevant documents. • Communicate with clients before depositions to prepare them for the process and after to provide updates and next steps. • Draft deposition summaries or reports for the firm to support case management and trial preparation. • Analyze opposing counsel’s deposition strategies to anticipate challenges and adjust approaches accordingly. • Coordinate with expert witnesses (e.g., medical professionals or vocational experts) to ensure their testimony aligns with case goals. Qualifications: • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. • Licensed attorney in South Carolina with at least 3 years of experience in workers' compensation law. • Strong deposition skills and a knack for standing up for clients. • Proficiency in legal drafting with a keen eye for detail. • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to think critically and solve problems effectively. • Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—allowing for clear articulation of complex legal concepts to clients and colleagues alike. • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team environment within a busy law office setting.
