    Job Description

    The Noticiero Weekend Writer is responsible writing the daily copy for live newscasts, recorded shows and special coverage. The candidate must have a strong editorial background and be able to copy edit correspondents’ scripts. The Writer is responsible for supporting producers in writing accurate information, being informed on current events at the national level and around the world. Must be proficient in social media platforms and streaming.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assists producers in writing the daily newscasts, including copy editing reporters’ scripts.
    • Writes stories as assigned by producers, including news briefs, readers, voice-overs, vo/sots, and anchor packages.
    • Applies solid news judgment that works along with the editorial line of the network.
    • Writes and copy edits banners and graphics for the broadcast.
    • Translates soundbites, statements, and texts from English to Spanish.
    • Assists producers and reporters with editorial and grammatical questions.
    • Must have vast knowledge of social media platforms.
    • Identifies and utilizes the best video and sound bites for the stories assigned.
    • Works under the direct supervision of the managing and show producer.
    • The writer is responsible for completing any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
    • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
    • Available to work weekends, early mornings, nights, and holidays.
    • This is a project/limited term position, unless otherwise amended or terminated as deliverables within this project are completed.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, or equivalent work experience
    • Minimum 3 years of news writing experience
    • Must be fully fluent in English and Spanish (both written and verbal)
    • Minimum 1 year of working experience with iNews

    • Must have a valid driver’s license.
    • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

    Desired Characteristics:

    • Proven solid writing skills and editorial judgment
    • Strong editorial knowledge
    • Proven solid writing skills. Excellent grammar.
    • Fully bilingual, Spanish, and English proficient.
    • Proficient in I-News and any other system for live news production
    • Accustomed to working in a team and collaborating with all levels within the organization.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Experience creating digital video content in a newsroom is helpful.
    • Willingness to work weekends, early morning shift and have flexible hours for last-minute scheduling changes.
