PURPOSE OF YOUR POSITION
The primary purpose of this job position is to plan, implement and evaluate nursing service for students attending the John Coleman School. This individual will work collaboratively with the transdisciplinary team, families and community agencies to create a continuum of health care for each student.

POSITION FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform nursing assessments and provide treatments and nursing care as required (administer medications, enteral feedings etc.) according to the Nurse Practices Act
- Maintain accurate record keeping and IEP/IFSP goal tracking documentation as required by SED/EI and Coleman School policies for quality assurance and accountability purposes
- Respond to and participate in resolving emergency medical situations
- Ensure that each student has required medical information prior to admission to school; an annual medical form on file; maintain immunization records and complete reports
- Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate with parents, staff, physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding health issues of students
- Be able to perform duties in the absence of Nurse Supervisor
- Order and maintain nursing and medical supplies
- Complete daily rounds of each classroom and record and report information as needed
- Evaluate and maintain emergency equipment
- Prepare and conduct staff development trainings on topics related to medical/nursing care
- Carry out standards for customer service; quality improvement; professional development; environmental, safety and infection control practices; confidentiality, corporate compliance and all other John A. Coleman policies and procedures; attend all mandatory in-services to ensure regulatory compliance and best practices in working with students and their families
- Perform other tasks to support the operations of the school as assigned by School Administration
Required Skills
EXPERIENCE:
- One year of nursing experience
- Two years’ experience working with children; Plus experience working with multiple handicapped and/or medically involved children
Required Experience
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
New York State Registered Professional Nurse License; Pediatric Nurse Certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, is preferred
