Peninsula Community Center, a ministry of Peninsula Covenant Church (PCC), builds community by providing personal, healthy and meaningful connection through aquatics, fitness, tennis and community programming. PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVE The Youth Aquatics Supervisor provides leadership for all Youth Swim Coaches. They serve as the primary point of contact, ensuring best practices in swim coaching, and maintaining a safe and engaging environment for swimmers, parents, and coaches at the Community Center, WBSL meets, and Sequoia High School.
PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS The Youth Aquatics Supervisor works closely with the Aquatics Coordinator, Aquatics Program Manager, Youth Swim Coaches, lifeguards, and front desk staff to ensure a smooth operation of all swim team activities. They also engage with swimmers, parents, and community members to foster a positive and inclusive aquatics environment.
WORKWEEK
Commit to working 5 out of the 6 weeks of summer swim team and attend all required training meetings throughout the summer, including weekly in-service training.
Work one summer holiday (Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day) and one of the following event dates: June 21st or July 26th.
Attend the WBSL Championship Meet on July 19th and the team banquet on July 20th.
Participate in mandatory bonfires on June 8th, June 30th, and August 3rd.
Hours and shifts vary, Weekly hours range: 12-20 hours.
SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise and support the Youth Swim Coach team, ensuring excellent service to swimmers and families.
Be knowledgeable of and ready to assist in any emergency by following the facility’s Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
Help coaches with writing swim sets, running meets, inputting meet entries, and providing feedback to swimmers and families.
Be available for scheduled shifts and responsible for securing a substitute if unable to work.
Be willing and available to cover shifts for others when needed.
Provide a leadership presence by addressing on-deck issues, schedule conflicts, member concerns, and facility needs—escalating to the Aquatics Coordinator or Aquatics Program Manager when required.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
American Red Cross Lifeguard certification required.
Strong swimming skills and experience in swim coaching, swim instruction, and working with children required.
One year of experience working at Peninsula Community Center preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be in the water and sun for extended periods.
Must be able to hold children (ages 3-12) in the water, stand in the water, swim 300 yards continuously (breaststroke or freestyle), and tread water for two minutes without using arms.
Lifeguards must be able to perform all American Red Cross Lifeguard rescue skills, including diving up to 12 feet, treading water for extended periods, CPR, rescue breathing, in-water spinal backboarding, and using an AED.
Must be able to lift 30 pounds occasionally and 15-20 pounds frequently.
DOJ background clearance required.
Must adhere to and model PCC’s Safe Church policies.
