    What you will do:

    The Estimator formulates comprehensive cost assessments for residential remodeling and new construction projects, covering labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors. This role requires interpreting schematic plans and drawings, identifying crucial but unstated details for budget inclusion. The Estimator also develops Scopes of Work (SOW) outlining project tasks, responsibilities, and deliverables. Collaborating with designers, project managers, subcontractors, vendors, construction crews, and administrative staff, the Estimator directly engages with clients to foster a collaborative and successful project environment.

    Essential Functions

    Project Knowledge:

    • Develop a comprehensive understanding of each project by reviewing and analyzing project plans and design intent.
    • Conduct site visits to analyze job sites for construction access, staging, and sequencing, considering unique site characteristics.

    Cost Preparation and Administration:

    • Perform take-offs and utilize Sage software to develop construction budgets.
    • Analyze plans to identify and include necessary details not explicitly shown.
    • Collaborate with Project Developer and Designer to document missing information and incorporate it into the budget.
    • Manage and organize written quotes from subcontractors and vendors, following up to ensure timely completion.
    • Review and negotiate bids for cost efficiency and compliance with project requirements.
    • Coordinate with project teams to finalize budgets and update project documentation.
    • Develop and maintain tools and processes to optimize project budgeting and success.

    Project Development:

    • Assist the Sales Manager, Production Manager, and Project Managers as required.
    • Schedule subcontractor site visits to acquire quotes.

    Project Handoff:

    • Provide digital files via BuilderTrend Portal to Production Department and Company Records.
    • Review budget and construction methodology with Production and Project Managers.

    General:

    • Perform additional duties as needed and uphold company procedures.
    • Exemplify Better Builders' core values, ethics, and integrity.

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's Degree plus 2+ years in residential construction estimating, or 4+ years of Design/Build experience in residential construction estimating.
    • Preferred experience in Project Manager, Estimator, or related roles.

    Required Skills and Abilities

    • Strong math skills with attention to detail for accurate cost preparation and the ability to calculate area and volume.
    • Proficient in reading and interpreting schematic designs, construction documents, and understanding unique site characteristics.
    • General knowledge of construction, materials, tools, and field production rates.
    • Excellent problem-solving, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
    • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, prioritize responsibilities, and meet tight deadlines.
    • Profit-driven with a focus on cost-cutting and efficiency improvement, capable of managing adversity and challenges.
    • Customer service and teamwork oriented.

    Compensation 

    • Salary $70,000-$90,000
