serving over 200,000 families and businesses across seven counties in
Central Florida, making SECO Energy the third largest electric co-op in
Florida and the sixth largest in the
nation.

General Purpose of Job: The Safety & Revenue Protection Coordinator is
responsible for conducting safety field crew observations; assist with
accident/injury investigations and root cause analysis; investigate
property and power theft, de-energize or disconnect service and assist
law enforcement and other agencies with preparing cases for criminal
prosecution. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the
development and delivery of power theft training programs to front-line
personnel for gathering data used in investigative reports.

Education and Experience:
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent with four or more years of
progressive experience in distribution electric utility operations
with qualification to disconnect services at the transformer, pull
meters and record voltage/amperage readings; field training of
apprentice personnel; working knowledge of safety standards
and compliance.
Preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent with an Electric utility
related trade/technical school training, and four or more years of
progressive experience in distribution electric utility operations
with qualification to disconnect services at the transformer, pull
meters and record voltage/amperage readings; field training of
apprentice personnel; working knowledge of safety standards and
compliance or,
- Two-year associate or technical degree in industrial health and
safety, industrial hygiene, engineering or related science with and
four or more years of progressive experience in distribution
electric utility operations with qualification to disconnect
services at the transformer, pull meters and record voltage/amperage
readings; field training of apprentice personnel; working knowledge
of safety standards and compliance
- Experience or similar work with an electric utility or
related industry.
- Certified Loss Control Professional (CLCP).
Note: Job related experience may be substituted for the required
education on a year-for-year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge in the construction and operation of electric distribution
facilities (overhead and underground); ability to conduct DOL, OSHA
and DOT regulatory material training related to electric utilities
including clearances, working space and maintenance requirements.
- Knowledge of current diversion and/or equipment theft; and ability
to learn investigative techniques, prepare reports and work with law
enforcement to establish probably cause for prosecution.
- Computer proficiency with the ability to utilize MS Office products;
ability to acquire working knowledge of applicable corporate
programs as they relate to the position.
- Effective listening, written and verbal communication skills to
prepare reports and business correspondence; prepare and conduct
training and safety programs; ability to analyze and interpret job
related business periodicals, laws and regulations.
- Excellent customer service orientation and organizational skills;
ability to exercise good judgment, sound reasoning skills and
discretion in making independent decisions commensurate
with responsibilities.
- Ability to conduct field safety audits of electric utility crews,
vehicles and facilities and prepare reports
documenting observations.
- Ability to work in stressful, high-tension situations.
- Ability to operate insulated aerial equipment, take voltage and
amperage readings, work in the energized primary area and turn
services off at the transformer (OAT) on underground and overhead.
- Ability to work effectively on projects and in a team environment;
to maintain highly confidential information; and effectively manage
stress and pressure in a frequently changing environment.

examination and drug screen.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This description is intended to

- Conduct crew field audits; safety equipment, vehicles and tool
inspections; document observations and make recommendations to
management as needed.
- Assist in review and investigation of accidents/injuries; prepare
root cause analysis; ensure all necessary procedures and paperwork
are completed in a timely and accurate manner. Make recommendations
to management as needed.
- Investigate SECO Energy property theft and power theft, to include
but not limited to:
- Disconnect service and pull meters to prohibit use of service,
as required.
- Gather information and take photographs of utility theft;
provide testimony and/or documentation for criminal/civil
actions; represent/protect the Cooperative’s interest in
judicial proceedings.
- Coordinate investigations with other departments,
contractors, etc. and establish probable cause for prosecution.
- Interview persons that have suspected involvement in the
criminal activity of power theft.
- Inform customers of policies and penalties involved in service
and/or equipment tampering or stealing.
- Make decisions to involve/work with law enforcement and other
agencies in prosecuting utility service and/or equipment thefts.
Prepare investigative reports, documents for state attorneys,
warrants, work tickets, etc.
- Maintain custody of evidence; inspect wiring, plumbing and
metering devices and make field inspections of high/low
consumption reports.
- Keep abreast of pertinent changes in Cooperative policies and
procedures, laws and regulations and electrical codes.
- Assist in development and delivery of training and safety programs.

- Normal work hours will be eight (8) hours between 7:00 am and 5:00
pm, Monday through Friday. Position is subject to 24-hour call out
and varying work schedules for assignment completion and flexibility
to change scheduling and report to work on short notice during
emergency situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly

This position has general office environment and exposure to field
conditions. Operates a variety of office equipment, including personal
computer, printers, copy machines, calculator, telephone, and FAX
machine. The employee will occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical
parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, inclement weather conditions,
radiation and risk of electrical shock. Subject to hostile customers,
inclement weather, electrical shock, explosions, dog bites, standing or
walking for extended periods. The noise level in the work environment
is usually moderate. Local business travel within SECO Energy’s service
territory and law enforcement agencies, as needed.
