NGP returns 27 percent of our proceeds to the nonprofit National Geographic Society to fund work in the areas of science, exploration, conservation and education.JOB DESCRIPTIONJob OverviewWe are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented editorial intern who will support the editorial staff at the National Geographic adult books imprint. Must be interested in geography, history, science, and nature, and have strong writing skills, and be able to efficiently manage diverse responsibilities in a high-volume work environment.Responsibilities:Prepare acquisition paperwork, including acquisitions memos and P&Ls; track paperwork for approved projects through the acquisitions process; request and redline contracts; set up acquired projects in title management systemDraft fact sheets, catalog copy, bound galley copy, and jacket/cover copyRead submissions and write reports as requestedReview books at various stages, providing editorial feedback as requestedFact-check and research manuscriptsResearch book ideas, competitive landscape, and compile lists of influencersAttend editorial, acquisitions and cover concept meetings and offer feedback as neededProvide administrative support as neededTo learn more about the overall publishing business:Each intern will be assigned a junior member of their reporting team as an internship mentor as well as a senior intern manager. Interns will learn the daily tasks and responsibilities of their particular department and play a supporting role on their team. Each Friday, a leader from one of the departments will present a deep-dive into their role and their team’s contribution to the business of publishing.
