SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out
exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are
not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this
possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.
SR.MECHANICAL ENGINEER – ELECTRONICS PACKAGING
As a member of the development team for ground based access points for
satellite communications, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will be
responsible for designing and developing outdoor rated advanced
electronic assemblies from initial concept to volume production. This
position required interfacing with multiple disciplines; RF designers,
EEs, ID, Reliability, Test, Manufacturing Supply chain and logistics to
develop a product that can be deployed worldwide in a wide range of
climates.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own the mechanical design, analysis and test, of a phased array
antenna electronics assembly, and its support structure from concept
through production launch.
- Define requirements and write test specifications to satisfy outdoor
deployments for both residential and commercial applications.
- Drive detail mechanical design (3D Cad, thermal analysis,
reliability analysis) to ensure product meets all technical,
functional, and performance requirements, within stringent
cost targets.
- Establish a development schedule for design and tooling releases for
design verification builds prior to high volume tooling release and
Production build start.
- Ensure development adheres to schedule, developing proof models and
prototypes as needed for test validation prior to high-dollar,
multi-cavity tooling commitments.
- Perform DFM and tooling reviews with selected vendors, ensure
tooling releases and bring-up is on schedule and parts are
manufactured to specification and within cost goals.
- PPAP sign off for all tools prior to release for volume production.
- Define product assembly steps and coordinate development of any
custom fixtures / test equipment for volume assembly with selected
contract manufacturers.
- Drive verification testing of prototypes and pre-production
assemblies, and product qualification to specification for volume
production release.
- Interface with CM’s manufacturing and assembly teams (overseas) to
ensure box build assembly throughput rates and high reliability.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering.
- 8+ years of experience with electronics assemblies and box builds
for high volume production.
- 3+ years of experience with electronics packaging for
outdoor products.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Masters of Science in mechanical engineering.
- Highly experienced with design of electronics packaging for outdoor
products and designing for RF Antennas / components.
- Preferably experienced with GR-3108-CORE / 487-CORE, or equivalent.
- Excellent CAD design (NX preferred) and analysis capabilities;
FEA/structural analysis, Thermal simulation/analysis (CFD).
- Demonstrated knowledge of thermal-reliability implications.
- Experienced with mechanical design for low-loss RF radomes, and
design for EMI/EMC compliance.
- Deep experience and technical expert in designing for multiple high
volume manufacturing techniques (sheet metal/die-casting, plastics
injection molding, composites, finishes).
- Extremely adept with Tolerance Analysis / GD&T for high
volume production.
- In-depth experience with Design for Six Sigma, Production Part
Approval Processes (PPAP), and highly experienced in statistical
process controls.
- Familiarity with product global regulatory certification and
approvals desired.
- Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills.
- Good planning and organizational skills with strong interpersonal
and communication abilities.
