Suffolk University Law School welcomes applications for the position of
Assistant Director, Professional & Career Development from qualified
candidates looking to work as part of an outstanding team of
professionals utilizing their legal training to guide and advise
students as they enter the profession. Reporting to the Associate Dean
for Professional and Career Development, the Assistant Director will
assist law students with their professional development through career
counseling, employer development and professional skills training. The
Assistant Director will work collaboratively with the entire PCD team to
develop and deliver professional development classes and programs that
most effectively prepare students for 21st century practice and legal
job market in a wide range of practice settings.
PRIMARY/PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide student-centered comprehensive career counseling, both
individually and through workshops and related programming; such
services will include individually tailored career and professional
development counseling, resume and cover letter writing, and
interview preparation.
- Maintain and expand experiential training and
post-graduate opportunities.
- Assist in the development and delivery of PD curricula and
programming designed to provide students with training in 21st
century competencies required for modern practice.
- Assist the Assistant Dean for Professional and Career Development
on various projects.
- Serve as a liaison to law student groups and bar associations.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- An earned J. D. is required.
- A minimum of three years law practice experience. Supervisory and/or
counseling experience is helpful.
- Ability to work independently and to exercise considerable judgment
and discretion on matters pertaining to student professional and
career development.
- Excellent communication skills to establish and cultivate rapport
with students, alumni and employers.
- Must be a team-player, possess eagerness to initiate new projects
and ability to set priorities and employ time management.
- Strong computer literacy.
