Vivarium & Lab Safety Assistant

• Assist with overseeing the operations of the vivaria. • Ensure students and researchers are in compliance with state, federal, and university regulations and guidelines on the humane care and use of laboratory animals. • Work in coordination with Risk Management to ensure facilities on campus are following all applicable environmental health and safety laws, best management practices, and standards. • Responsible for performing lab safety inspections and facilitating corrective actions for deficiencies. • Demonstrated leadership in implementing the new laboratory safety program and strengthening the culture of safety within the university. • Achieved a 97% compliance rate by working hard to build trust and engage with faculty, staff, and students. • Developed comprehensive training materials, inclusive resources, and a webpage on lab safety to help increase safety awareness and enhance student learning. • Provide lab safety and vivaria training to faculty and students on an individual and group basis. • Collaborated with various stakeholders to improve the annual chemical inventory reconciliation process. • Represent the department in meetings and conferences. • Review documents for grammar and accuracy, prepare agendas, and create presentations for senior leadership meetings. • Serve as the Radiation Safety Administrator and Research Misconduct Administrator.
